Encore 5.0 is the latest iteration of the world's most popular DVD & Video authoring application for Mac OS X, Windows and Linux. The only difference between the two is the operating system they run on. Encore 5 runs on Windows Vista, XP, 2000 and the 64-bit versions of these same operating systems. The program also works on PowerPC (PPC) based Macintosh computers with Mac OS X 10.4 or later installed, including 64-bit versions of Mac OS X 10.4 or later (client version). The Macintosh version comes with its own DVD authoring application while the Windows version can be used with third party software such as Sonic MyDVD or Roxio Creator to burn DVDs, while also being able to import pictures, videos & music. # Encore 5 can be used to:# Windows XP/Vista/7/8 – 2000 – Server 2003 – Tablet PC – Server 2008 – Vista 64-bit – Server 2008 x64"* = no longer supported as of version 5.0.2" # Encore 4.0 was the last version of Encore to support Windows NT 4, Windows 98 and Windows ME. Otherwise, there were no significant changes to the program's interface throughout its lifetime and that fact made it easy and quick to learn and use. Additionally, Encore 4 supported the importing of finished DVDs directly into the software. There was no need to convert them beforehand. Downloads are available on Adobe's website for Windows, Mac OS X, Linux and Solaris. The Windows versions are the biggest files at around 75 MB each. The other versions are much smaller with Linux being the smallest at only 10 MB. Older versions of Encore were also available for free download by Adobe but these have since been removed from Adobe's website. As far as general editing features, Encore 4 includes all necessary functionality to work with video files in most popular formats (AVI, WMV, MPEG-1/2/4). It also includes a lot of other good tools for users to expand its functionality with. # Encore 4.0 was the last version of Encore to work on Windows 98 and Windows ME. Encore is now dead as there hasn't been a new version made since version 3.5 in 2005 with the exception of some 'redistribution' versions from third party software companies such as Roxio 2013 and Sony Vegas 2013, which are now only available as downloadable content rather than native copies.
